Carmel, Ind. -- The USI Rugby Club won the 2013 NSCRO Indiana State Championship Saturday after defeating Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) in the championship match.
USI won the state title in the division of Indiana DIII Small Colleges.
The USI Rugby Club has advanced to the NSCRO Mid-Central Qualifier which will be held in Evansville on USI's home field. The match will be against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside whom USI lost to in 2012 in the same qualifying match.
The qualifier match will be held on Saturday Nov. 2, at 3pm Central Standard Time.

USI was one of four teams that made its way to Carmel, Ind. this weekend in an attempt to win the championship title. Two semi-state games were held on Saturday to determine the teams that would face off in the championship match.
Indiana State University would play IPFW in the first semi-state game which resulted in an IPFW win.
The second semi-state game was played between USI and Grace College. USI won the contest in a shutout victory with a final score of 38-0.
Each semi-state game was played with two 30 minutes halves, 60 minute games. Regular rugby games consist of two 40 minute halves, 80 minute games. The reduced playing time was due to the championship game being held on the same day.
The championship match would see a return of the regular playing time as USI took on IPFW.
The match between the two teams resulted in a 27-10 win for USI.
USI Rugby Club President and junior back Doug Rose would be named USI's Man of the Match, an honor given by our club each match to a player whose in-game efforts were exceptional and represents our club's core values.
The club's record for the 2013 Fall Season is now extended to 6-0 for conference and 11-1 overall. The only loss comes from the Vanderbilt Oakleaf Championship Match against the University of Alabama.
This is the second time USI has won the state championship, the first time was in 2012 against Anderson University.
