The USI Rugby club recognized four of their players this past week in the following categories:
Rugby is a team sport, probably more than most sports. Every player is expected to perform to the highest levels of athleticism with everyone playing all positions when needed. There is not much room for individual praise, but every year the team likes to honor four players who went above and beyond the call of duty.
Here are the 2012-2013 award recipients (Jon couldn't make it to the ceremony):
- Most Valuable Player: This is the guy we couldn't go without. Our absolute most valuable player.
- Most Valuable Forward: Our anchor in the scrums. Someone who commanded the pack and led the 8 man group to success.
- Most Valuable Back: Back that played the best rugby. Aside from points, this guy was always there to catch and pass, ruck when needed, and didn't let a guy get past him.
- Rookie of the Year: First year player who understood the game the best. The guy who grew the most on and off the field by how much he soaked up our Rugby.
